I’ve always been about long, thick lashes. If I had to choose only one makeup item to use every day, it would be mascara. Of course natural beauty is amazing but we all have our thing. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to feel perty every now and then.
Last year I went all in and spoiled myself with some lash extensions. Not going to lie, it’s addicting. That was my time to just relax and get pampered. Not having to put makeup on every day was pretty nice too. Hello time saver.
But eventually I got tired of having to get them filled every few weeks and also figured I could be spending that money else where. So after a year of the best lashes ever, off they went. My lashes underneath were a sad story. Eek. Short. Patchy. And a complete different texture than they were before. That’s what a year of eyelash glue will do.
I got to work growing those bad boys back. Pulled out all the big guns. I always love finding natural ways to do things. I welcomed the challenge. Also, the more I thought about having eyelash glue on my eyes for that long started to freak me out.
First things first: nutrition. Healthy skin, hair, and nails stem from good nutrition. MSM is AMAZING for this. If you want a science-based article on the benefits of MSM, here you go. If you want the summed up version, click here. I take Sulfurzyme to get in my daily dose of MSM. When I take this consistently, my hair, skin, and nails are dramatically better.
My next trick to get these lashes back to normal – adding oils to my mascara. I add one drop of each of Lavender, Rosemary, and Cedarwood essential oils to each tube of mascara I open. Not only are these oils great for strengthening hair follicles, they also make the mascara tube last longer. When it starts to get dried out, add another drop of each to the tube again and it will last you a couple more weeks. My go-to mascara right now is from Thrive Causemetics. Great ingredients and comes off soooo easy. No black smudging all over your face when it gets wet.
My last trick, which I recently discovered, is using YL’s Diamond Dust Veil powder on my lashes before I apply my mascara. I don’t know how it works but it makes my lashes SO much thicker and longer. It’s insane. Just a couple swipes with an eyeshadow brush over my lashes followed by a coat of mascara and voila!
Check out these before and after pics. The first picture is the day my extensions came off. The second pic is a month after doing all these tricks.
